CAKE?!?

Today, my dad and I were together and he told me something very funny about my brother Steff, whom I fondly call “Panget” (ugly!). Dad and I were on our way home from a meeting, when he told me the story how my brother went home the day after we had dinner on the night of my father’s birthday. Steff visited them unexpectedlyand went straight in the kitchen to open the fridge. When he didn’t see what he was looking for he asked my brother Ferdie “Where is the CAKE?” Ferdie grinned and told him to ask Dad. So, Steff went inside the room and asked my father. Dad told him the cake is gone ‘cuz they ate it last night. Steff was in disbelief that he asked for the box and Dad said he threw it already and too bad that Steff wasn’t home last night. I laughed very hard and Dad was also laughing as he told me the story. TRUST my brother Steff on this! HAHAHAHA!

Wow! Birthday ni Daddy! At eto ang nangyari, nagplano ako gamitin yung credit card ko para maibili ko siya ng cake kaso nag-text si “Panget” at ang sabi kakain daw kami sa labas at chip in daw kami sa gastos. Ano?!? Credit card na lang nga gagamitin ko pambili ng cake chip in pa kami sa labas! Text ko siya at sinabi ko plano ko at mas mainam naman kung sa bahay na lang kasi at least marami maihahanda kesa kung kakain lang sa labas, mas magastos. Kaso nagpupumilit so sabi ko sige basta CAKE lang offer ko!

We planned to meet in SM Megamall at 6pm pero later on mukhang malabo na kaya minabuti ko na lang umuwi; cake o walang cake! When I got home, sabi ko kay kuya Ferdie, bibili kaming 2 ng cake gagamitin ko credit card pero sabi niya huwag na at kakain daw kami sa labas bilin ni Steff (Panget). Kaya sabi ko kay Daddy, tomorrow ko na siya ibibili ng cake para sa kanya lang yun sa bahay at huwag niya sasabihin kay Panget. Sama-sama kaming lahat nagpunta sa SM Megamall. Ako, si Daddy, Kuya Ferdie, Nics, Kuya Ed and his 2 kids…. Pagdating namin ang tagal naming naghintay kay Steff, ang "panget" na yun! Maasim pa ang mukha ng dumating kasi text daw ako ng text! Anyway, we ate in Cabalen. At pag-upo na pag-upo ko tinananong ni "Don Panget" nasaan daw ang cake? Sabi ko nasa bahay! At nagalit. Bakit di ko daw dinala? LOL! Hinila ako ni Dad at may binulong, sabi sa akin ni Daddy may 'period' daw si Steff. Hehehe! Anyway, we had a nice dinner and we strolled around the mall after ‘cuz my niece Nicole doesn’t want to go home yet. Nicole was so quiet while we walked around. She held onto my hand with her head bent… We took a taxi and they dropped me in my place. I kissed my Dad on the cheek and told him, “Dad, don’t forget 7+6 is equal to 76!" :D My Dad laughed and bade me to go inside and they left.

Seminar on Women in Crisis

I’m staying here in Mapayapa Village, Quezon City. This is the same place where I attended my college retreat before. However, I am not here on a retreat but on a seminar on Women in Crisis. As one of the Board of Trusty of a Deaf organization called Filipino Deaf Women Health and Crisis Center in the Philippines., I had to part take in this three day seminar. Everything is FREE! From our transportation expenses, lodging, food and materials necessary to use during the seminar. We also have a certificate of attendance after the training.

When I first joined the organization, I had no idea what Jen and Flor were talking about. Even Rachel who tried to explain what the organization is all about could not help me clearly understand the purpose. So they told me to come and see for myself. I thought about it for a bit and maybe it would be better to come with them and forget about my date on that day. So, I went despite on the way my date was calling me on my cellphone and asking where I am. Well, to hell with him! I decide it will be worth going to this organization and become a part of it than go out with the guy who is actually a two-timer! The girls and I went to a place near Edsa, where they were having the very first meeting of the organization. It was so surprising who are supporting and members of this organization. Some of my colleagues are members and a few others I know who does incredible work on Deaf organizations. Even Dr. Martinez is part of the organization…. In the beginning we would meet every first Saturday to discuss plans and other agenda. At first we have no place to meet and we would just meet in Starbucks Coffee Shops and later I volunteered to have the meeting in my place until they found an area in Philippines Federation of the Deaf‘s office. Raffy the former president of PFD helped us organize our meeting when we moved in. The organization’s first plan is to organize a seminar hence we are here in Mapayapa Village, today… I shared a room with Flor and across our room is Jen and a hearing person from another organization who also support Abused Women and Children’s group.
The seminar is a very enriching experience. I gained a lot of insight and what I should do in such cases of rape and abuse. I also learned and understood the laws now including the new ones that were passed or approved in he Senate bill… I cannot say or go much in details of what we had discussed here as it should be highly confidential. What I cannot forget though was the open discussion and in the end we were given some important copies of documents that we will need in advocating Women’s Rights and in helping victims of rape and abuse.

Dinner at Italianni’s

After we distributed the Academic Performance Report during the Parents and Teachers’ conference, my two colleagues and I decided to go out; have dinner and watch a movie in Glorietta. We left after we addresse the parents’ concerns regarding their child’s performance in school. There was still an ongoing talk when we left by sneaking out one by one, pretending we are hungry and will just grab a bite in the canteen. Our Academic coordinator even tried to stop us by asking where we are going and each of us made our own excuses. LOL!

We finally escaped and boarded Claire’s car and off we went to Glorietta. It was exciting when we got there and walked around the malls. Miggy and I can’t help rating good-looking guys we saw around. Clarice would giggle sometimes and even had the nerve to point out on some guys. Hahaha! We went to the cinema and got our tickets. The movie wont be starting yet till 7:30 so we decided to eat dinner early. We again walked around Glorietta Malls looking for a place to dine in. Claire wanted a salad and Miggy wanted “anything edible and tasty.” The way he told us with emphasis on what he wants made me and Claire raise our eyebrows. Anyway, I spotted Italianni’s and I pointed it to them and told them I fancy dining Italian. Both of them agreed and we went in. We ordered a cesar salad, fettucini, pizza and bottom less iced tea.

The food was TERRIFIC! From the salad to the fettucini and pizza. We were so quiet and busy eating that we didn’t even bother to comment how great the food tasted! I think because each of us is watching each others’ serving, particularly over the pizza. HAHAHA! The food came one by one though so we really had our time eating. We even stayed awhile and watched other people eat and chat. I even saw a good looking guy across our table at the back. But when Claire and Miggy looked at the guy, Miggy said: “YUCK!He is gay!” “WHAT?” I was in disbelief at what he said. "How do you know?" I asked. Miggy said,“Because he is only wearing an undershirt. No men would dare go out like that except gay!” Claire agreed with him. So, there! something new that's truly educational I just learned today aside having my stomach full. We left Italiani’s and walked some more around the mall. Miggy was looking for a new cellphone and I was really having a hard time keeping up with them to avoid getting lost in the crowd. I was so full, I could hardly breath. Ugh! When we got to a Globe store, I sat down with Claire at the customer waiting area and just waited for Miggy to do his business…. Finally, we left at 15 minutes before the movie started. The movie is about the Japanese and American War. It was close captioned in English. However, half-way through the movie Miggy fell asleep. SIGH! That’s what pigs do after eating, they sleep! Hehehe!

Anyway, after the movie we strolled around again. Claire and I tried on some shoes in some stores. The shoes were nice and expensive, we plan to buy next time we get our next salary. We went home at 10:00 in the evening. Miggy and I took the LRT and from Cubao we parted ways. It was TRULY a pleasant experience. We planned to sneak out again and do this again next time!

Eversince I learned the death of Cheyenne, I have stopped doing several things in my life. One is talking and caring to somebody I once used to value in my life. Two, is loving out of nothing and three, is waiting for something for days at no end... Losing Chey was painful and hard to accept. Yet, it changed me. It gave me a strong feeling and the power to stand and vow never ever return for those three things I used to hope for. I love my friend Cheyenne.We used to talk a lot about it during the last few months that she was alive and online. We shared so much in those remaining days.... I will always cherrish those times and will always remember her words.

i dont want to see you get hurt....you cant be done that way.... you cant let him 'find' himself with someone else...then come back to break your heart again....i love you too much.... you are too good to be treated that way.

Those were her exact words to me.Words of comfort! Words that keeps repeating. In the time she was telling me these, I couldn't quite grasp the idea. I dreaded the thought of letting go. Because I loved too much. It's so sad....losing someone is like losing a part of yourself. And eversince, June 12, 2006 I'm never ever the same again. I have lost a part of myself that used to be. I am no longer me, of who I was or used to be. When I look at the mirror,I don't see myself but I see someone else face. A face unknown, the eyes doesnt lit up when it smiles. deep within there is an emptiness and a deep sadness.

Cheyenne is Up in the Skies...

I wake up this morning and I thought of my dear friend Chey…she is gone…she passed away last January 30…. I had no premonition or any strange feelings that time or before and after she died except that, I did wonder how she is and how things are going on with her and Brit…. I wondered why Chey just stopped coming online…. I thought of the worse for a while but it didn’t alarm me that much ‘cuz I knew both of them are sly or cunning, they will get away with it, whatever happens you cannot separate or stop those two…. sooner or later they will be chatting again. I will just give it time. Perhaps they are in touch in private message and are using different nicks trying to catch on each other like they usually do. I didn’t want to bother them if that is the case. I like to give them privacy and let them spend their time together ‘cuz I knew how much it counts for them to find the time to talk. Besides, it’s becoming seldom, so I want to let them catch up. Time is so precious…. Sometimes I envy those two ‘cause of the kind of love they have for each other. I wish Andres have the same intensity for me…I wish he had been sincere…I told this pain to Chey during one of our last conversations last year in December…. But still, I wonder…I don’t see them anymore online…. For a while Brit used to send me website that I never bothered to look or check. Until I deleted Brit in my yahoo and Chey stopped coming or leaving me offline messages…I wonder if I will ever hear from both of them again…. I thought more about Chey. I hoped she is alright and fighting…

Its hard and painful to believe Chey is gone…I started crying and I called her name. The thought of Chey gone forever hurts. The thought she will never come back is hard. I will miss her so much. She had been one of my very good and longest online friends, one of the MOST LOYAL! I ever had. She is so much a part of my life. God I love my friend very much! But I knew she needed peace, she had enough! The clock strikes and its 7:53am just about the same time when I first saw the topic yesterday in mIRClife that Chey finally rested in peace. I couldn’t believe that. I thought at first it could be probably someone else who has the same nick cuz in #ddi, there were two Cheyenne. But that is mIRClife! I knew the other Cheyenne doesn’t come there. I must ask it just couldn’t be Chey. I called ercald who just joined but he didn’t reply. I called `Bubbles in msn, she was listening to music so I know she will answer me. I buzzed her and asked. It took a while before she replied, and when she said yes, I went numb. It couldn’t be! I don’t remember exactly what I said next, but I do remember asking when and how? I started crying as she told me what she heard, `Bubbles gave me the logs. I knew it’s because of Brit. Chey had always told me she cannot live without her and I wonder if Brit had abandoned her, I don’t think she did but then Chey won’t be gone then. Did Brit give up and just left her? That’s hard to think she could do that but then I cannot blame Brit. No matter how it hurts. I hurt so much for Chey. She is my dear friend…. When `Bubbles gave me the website in tribute to Chey, I couldn’t read it at first and I messaged Andres. I didn’t expect him to respond but to my surprise he DID! I told him about Chey and gave him the website. He acted cold, unemotional and all he said was: “I’m sorry to hear that.” “I hope she finds peace” then he went BRB. He never said anything after that and didn’t come back, he opened his music and listened to songs for a while then he left… I cried my heart alone. I thought of Chey…why?

I have work the day I saw that topic. I have no idea at that time what that day would bring. I woke up yesterday and did my usual morning routine. I went online and got connected to several messengers and channels. I am on auto join in several channels. As usual the channels in MIRC were almost full and quiet with the bots giving out their auto message greetings and people coming and going only add to confusion and enough for me to miss the topic in #ddi. I wasn’t logged yet in mIRClife cuz I didn’t add it on my auto join channel. I got bored a bit and wanted to see who are parked in mIRClife. When I joined there, I didn’t notice the topic at first. I got disconnected twice, I think. When I came back that’s when I saw the topic about Chey. After I had confirmed that it was indeed Cheyenne Williams who passed away, I went to #ddi and in the lounge and called for my Daddy HangMan (owner of the now defunct channel kitty, where me and Chey met) but he wasn’t there and someone asked me why? I told that person that a dear friend of ours died. The person who asked me told me if I am talking about Chey. I said yes and wondered how she knew. She told me its on ddi’s topic. How could have I missed it? And how long had it been there? Gosh!

Sometimes, when we go inside a chat channel we don’t pay attention nor care to read what is in the topic. We take it for granted. Thus, we miss reading what is so essential… I hope others will never take the channel’s topic for granted like I did. Please take time to look and read so what happened to me that day will not happen to you.

I wiped my tears and mustered the courage to read the tribute. The website was done by Chey’s sister. I read that Chey deleted everything and I remember losing some of my logs, which includes hers and Brits. I wonder if there was anything connected to that. I also read she had destroyed her poems. My God! Chey used to write incredible poems. She gave me one. She said its originally for Andrea but when I told her I would like to have a copy because it kind of relates to what Andres and I were going through, Chey told me I can have it and that she is also dedicating it to us! I posted that poem to my private blog and showed it to Andres only yesterday. I didn’t want to share it to anybody aside from Andres. I felt Chey’s sister has the rights to it now. It is still Chey’s poem not mine or Andres, it’s not ours to share to other people. I want to respect Chey’s work. So I went to look if there is any email address or any possible means to get in touch with her sister so I could give some of the poems I have of Chey, but there was none…

I went to work feeling disoriented. Although, I made my plans about my lessons 2 days earlier, I feel like I don’t know where to start. I have everything set but sometimes I get lost and I don’t know what I am going to do. The feeling I have inside me is just quite heavy…When my class started, I have to start by telling my students what school don’t teach them…

”School doesn’t teach you how to love someone or how to walk away on someone and tell that someone you don’t love them anymore…school doesn’t teach you that!”….

“I have said, you must know the balance when to separate your problems from work and school. That you should never bring them here when you come to class or work but leave them all at home and get back to resolving your troubles when you’ve done your other responsibilities that requires your attention right now.”…

“You need time management…know how to set your priorities…you didn’t come here in school to bring and discuss your worries at home but you came here to study…if you need help we have the guidance but only after your classes. Know your responsibilities and hold your emotional conflict, use your head and don’t let emotion over rule your judgment.”

“What happened to me this morning is beyond all that. It’s not something I can put on hold and say I will get back to that. It’s not something that can wait nor something I can attend to after I’ve done my other duties. Its not something I can bring back or hold on to when I have my time. But something that as human I have to be emotional about because it’s very painful, not even a mind can hold. Its overwhelming…. to learn my friend died.”

There was a great shock on my students’ reaction, some of them gasped, others said ohh and covered their mouth. A great silence followed and I could not contain the tears I have been trying to keep. I cried unashamedly. A student reached out and offered me her handkerchief. I didn’t take it I took a tissue from my bag and told her it’s okay. She patted my back and stood there. Everyone we’re watching me. I motioned my student to take her seat. I wiped my tears and tried to control myself. I must not break completely or I will never be able to go on and do what I must do for today’s class. It’s not fair for these students. But I owe them an explanation aside an apology for not being myself and for bringing this emotional burden.

“Death is inevitable. You cannot stop it or make it wait. It’s something beyond everybody’s control but the will of God. I want you to understand this emotional pain that not even a school can do something about or stop you from your grief. We are human. Other problems we can make our head rule over our heart but not this. Forgive me, if I am not at my usual self today and if I make mistake let me know and correct me. I will welcome it and appreciate that you speak out and correct what must be set right. Don’t be afraid to tell me that I am wrong. There is nothing to be afraid except if you didn’t study for your exam.”

None of my students said a word. They just nodded their heads. Some of the girls were in tears even the boys! All understood the emotional pain I am suffering, the shock and pain of lost.

“My friend died… and I feel lost… I don’t know some times what I am going to do or what I am suppose to do. I am not at myself at all. But I try to keep in mind you are here and I cannot ignore the fact I am living and still have responsibilities to you, as your teacher…. I want you to take your time to understand, you should never waste your time. Don’t forget to say I LOVE YOU and mean it! Say I am SORRY! I recall when Chey and I used to talk especially when our talk is heart to heart we never fail to say those three important words. We always say I LOVE YOU to each other. I have no regrets. I didn’t fail to let her know she is in my heart and that I care that much, that I LOVE HER AS MY FRIEND. And she the same. I don’t recall any moment of having any misunderstandings with her. We never had any of those. We were always there to be silly, laughing, defending or supporting each other when one of us is about to cry and lost hope…. The last time we talked, she was at the brink of giving up her life but I told her to please hold on. I made her hang on for a while and I made her promise me she will never take her life away no matter what happen. I assured her Brit loves her that much and she will never leave. I know Brit does with the same intensity.... Before we ended our chat, Chey made me promise too I will not take away my own life for Andres and I told her I NEVER WILL! I can say I am glad that I did my part in making Chey’s life better for being her friend…for being there especially in those last few months that she was active, when she most needed me... For not failing in anything…

Lastly, I also learned that her sister's name is AmyLynn ( we met last night in #ddi). And like Amy, Chey shared her life with me for three wonderful years...

To Cheyenne, my dearest friend, I will miss you very much, you hold dear deep and true in my heart and wherever you are, I hope you are happy and at peace---Up in the Skies….

Eggs! ( In The Eyes Of A Child )

My colleague in the Elem. Dept. told this story to me....
While having class with preschoolers one day, a boy named Andre blurted out in front of the teacher: "I have eggs!" The teacher heard the child and looked at him. "You have what?" "EGGS!" said the child. “I have two eggs!” He said out loud. The teacher looked quietly at the child again before asking, "where?" The child who was sitting on his chair and leaning on his desk moved away and pointed below to his eggs between his legs. "I have eggs! two!"

Isn't it amazing or funny or maybe you were even shocked by this story. But when Andre said all of those things he was serious. He actually said it in a matter of fact.

Sometimes we can't really under estimate younger children.... I remember reading a book about The Little Prince by Saint Exupery...."Grown ups doesn't see things the way children does..." Being a teacher, I try to look at things through a child's eyes in the way he views or percept the world. Children can be brutally frank and grown ups tend to take it as inappropriate behavior... Sometimes, we adults, forget that we were children once and we used to see things the same way. However, we were too eager to grow up. Because we don’t want to be told by our parents that we have to go to bed or to eat vegetables and to drink milk.... Out of our desire to grow fast and please the adult people so that they will accept us; we are forced to grow up and follow what society dictates or expect us to be. Hence, we have forgotten our childhood and the wonderful way we used to see things in the same honest way a child looks at his/her surroundings.... So by the time when we reach adulthood, we are too pressured. We are no longer a child but a living robot to this world.

It may be a sad story, but ‘tis true! However, there is good news… No matter how old you are, there is still a child inside you...inside your heart…. It’s screaming and kicking to be out! ...you must learn to laugh again... laugh as loud as u can… as loud as you used to do when you were still a kid… laugh loudly without a care… be less serious... loosen up and giggle!!! Don’t just smile... and you will see.... being young at heart is the secret to a wonderful, happy and longer life… so live your life because life is short, live it to the fullest while you can!
